COLTS UPDATE APR 2024

Southern Districts Colts are gearing up for their first 2024 competition game on April 6 at Forshaw Rugby Park. It’s an event eagerly awaited as part of the whole club game day dubbed "Super Saturday". The team has undergone an intensive pre-season High-Performance Program, featuring trials against formidable opponents, Randwick, Canberra Vikings, and Parramatta Two Blues.

Under the stewardship of George Gargoulakis and his dedicated Strength and Conditioning team, the Colts have been honing their skills and fitness levels. The collective effort has resulted in a notably fitter and more finely tuned group of athletes, with significant transformations evident in their physical conditioning thanks to rigorous training sessions at the clubs own Ken McKay High-Performance Gym.

A pivotal moment in fostering team cohesion came during a weekend camp at Sinclair's accommodation, @ Conjola South Coast graciously hosted by Lindsay and Ulla Thytherleigh. This retreat served not only as an opportunity for players to bond but also as a platform to solidify the camaraderie within the squad, laying the foundation for a united front as they head into the competitive season.

The upcoming match against last year's premiers, Warringah, promises to be a challenging but exhilarating start to the season. Warringah's reputation as the 2023 Colts Club Championship winners and 1st Colt’s premiers from the previous year only adds to the anticipation surrounding the fixture. However, with the Southern Districts Colts buoyed by their impressive pre-season performances and strengthened team dynamics, they are poised to embrace the challenge head-on and showcase their talent on the field.

Southern District Colts wouldn't be possible without the collective effort and support of numerous individuals and groups. Therefore, it's important to extend heartfelt gratitude to all those involved in preparing the team for the upcoming season.

First and foremost, immense appreciation goes out to the coaches who have dedicated their time, expertise, and passion to nurture the talent and potential within the Colts squad. Their guidance and mentorship have been instrumental in shaping the team's skills and mindset.

A special acknowledgment is also due to the Strength and Conditioning coaches who have played a pivotal role in enhancing the fitness and physical capabilities of the players. Their tailored programs and unwavering commitment have contributed significantly to the team's overall readiness.

The invaluable contribution of the University of Wollongong Sports Science students cannot be overlooked. Their involvement in the High-Performance Program has provided invaluable insights and support, further enriching the training regimen of the Colts.

The Club Medical staff deserves sincere appreciation for their dedication to keeping the players fit, healthy, and ready for action. Their expertise and care ensure the well-being of the team both on and off the field.

A big thank you also goes out to the senior coaching group and the Club General Manager, whose leadership and support have been instrumental in driving the Colts' preparation and success. Also a big thank you to the board for their unwavering support of the Colts program especially over the past 3 years and there recognition that Colts are paramount to the clubs future.

Special recognition is reserved for Donna Eagleton for her exceptional efforts in organising accommodation and facilitating the smooth integration of incoming players. Her tireless work behind the scenes has undoubtedly contributed to the cohesion and comfort of the team.

Lastly to the 70+ Colt players who have put in a huge effort over the past 6 months, training 3 times a week and doing extra weights sessions well done and now it’s time to get the results of the sweat and tears of tough training and start playing some good rugby. Well done to all!

To everyone mentioned, and to all those who have played a part, your dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed. The Southern Districts Colts are immensely grateful for your contributions and look forward to representing the club with pride and passion on the field.

Please give these players all the support you can, especially on home games and I look forward to seeing you all at Fortress Forshaw watching the mighty Colts .
