Head Coach Jayson Brewer & Southern Districts Parting Ways

SDRC Announcement from the Board

The Southern Districts Rugby Club board advises that Jayson Brewer will not be seeking re-appointment for the 2024 season.

Jayson returned last year from overseas coaching in Japan and has been instrumental in 2023 to the work accomplished on restoration across our club community.

A coach with over 20 years’ experience at various levels including international coaching with the Flying Fijians, Jayson has made the decision to turn his focus on his family, including his three young children, and other full time work interests.

Jayson said: “Whilst I appreciate the opportunity afforded me, this decision is one that’s best for me and my young family at this point in time. After reviewing the season I realised I could not make the sustained commitment that I believe the club requires. This was not an easy decision - there are great people at the club, and there is a real opportunity across the whole pathway for Southern Districts to continue to develop. In 2023 we debuted 36 new players in first grade, including several Colts, and started the return to a “whole club” playing philosophy. I have truly enjoyed my time at Southern Districts and wish the club all the best for the 2024 season and beyond.

Southern Districts President Brad Devine said: “Jayson has made a significant contribution in his short time with the Rebels and has helped drive transition our program on and off the field. We appreciate him making this decision early and wish him and his family all the best for the future. We are excited about the foundations now in place for the future of the club”.

The board will shortly be making further announcements about the 2024 season and beyond.
